Standard DL’s & ID’s

Standard DL’s & ID’s

Everyone should have some form of identification, whether it is an ID (Identification Card) or a DL (Driver’s License). If you are coming from out of state or obtaining a regular ID, you can receive an ID in the state of Alaska provided you have the correct paperwork.

What do you need to obtain a Standard ID or Driver’s License?

  • Birth certificate or unexpired passport

  • One proof of physical address

  • Marriage license, divorce certificate, or name change documents (if applicable)

If you are moving to Alaska from out of state, you will need to surrender your out-of-state license and pass the General Knowledge Exam. You can study for the exam using the driver’s manual available here: Alaska Driver’s Manual.

If you are renewing your license or need a duplicate due to loss, simply provide your expired license or license number and complete an application. Depending on the situation, additional paperwork may be required. If you are an Alaskan resident and your license has been expired for a year or more, you will need to retake the General Knowledge Exam. You can prepare for the exam using the driver’s manual available here: Alaska Driver’s Manual.
